Ron Paul on WRIF

I’m honestly a little surprised at the paucity of presidential candidates’ commercials I’ve seen on television, but that could be because I don’t watch much TV and not the stations that run the majority of the commercials (basic network TV and the 24-hour news/politics channels). I do watch Tucker Carlson whenever I can, though, to see if he’ll talk about or interview Ron Paul.

Additionally, I have only heard one presidential candidate’s radio commercial, a Ron Paul commercial. I’ve heard it on WRIF-Detroit several times. Let’s see if I can find an mp3 of it… Well, I couldn’t, but I did find an article about it that makes a strong case for at least being suspicious of various elected and unelected officials’ machinations.

My reason for writing about this particular radio commercial is that it doesn’t really do anything to help mitigate this smear that Ron Paul is kind of a conspiracy theorist and an alarmist, even a bit of a “kook”, about matters of national sovereignty. It is about NAFTA, CAFTA, and this NAFTA Superhighway. He says politicians and bureacrats want to eliminate our sovereignty by using the NAFTA Superhighway as a springboard for a North American Union, and that unelected tribunals make decisions about matters of national sovereignty.

All of these radio commercials are much better. I think with Michigan’s economy and job market among the worst (literally) in the nation and everyone looking for someone to blame, he could do himself good for the Michigan primary by spreading his message that inflation, high taxes, destructive and wasteful foreign wars, useless military bases in nearly every country, unhelpful regulations, and State entrenchment in health care are all hindering our economic situation. I mean, why run this radio ad over and over again? Is anyone other than Lou Dobbs going to cast a vote for president based on NAFTA and threats to our sovereignty from some unseen, non-imminent efforts to undermine our sovereignty by people they’ve never heard about in Washington? I don’t think he really even talks about immigration in that ad, which would be a more of a selling point for many voters, especially those in unions in factories.

But, on the other hand, all three co-hosts of the WRIF morning show support Ron Paul and loathe Hillary Clinton with all their being, so that’s another reason to like them even more.
