China says, “Merry Christmas,” Google won’t

December 25, 2007 – 5:34 pm by John

I try not to get all up in arms about the “liberal war on Christmas” and all the other PC things that Christian conservatives complain about, not because they aren’t harmful or threatening or worthy of denunciation, but because the Christian/neocon right themselves are currently a large part of the problem with our government and our society. But this was interesting: The webiste of China Daily says, “Merry Christmas,” in a cute little logo at the top, but freedom-loving, capitalist Google refuses to say, “Merry Christmas,” in its homepage logo, even on Christmas day. (Yes, I just checked it; it says, “Happy Holidays from Google.” That’s called journalism, baby.) Thanks to Stop the ACLU, which refers to China Daily as a “news/propaganda site,” so they’re insinuating it is either very pro-communist-party or is actually run or controlled to some significant degree by the communist government; I have no idea to what extent that is true.
