Democrats support the Drug War
April 8, 2008 – 10:14 pm by JohnSemi-libertarian Radley Balko’s latest column is about the Imperial Federal Govrernment’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program, which, according to the Department of Justice’s website, “is a partnership among federal, state, and local governments to create safer communities.” In other words, it is part of the State’s grand program of taking money from people who earned it and giving it to law-enforcement authorities to terrorize, rob, beat, kidnap, and enslave people who, in addition to putting taboo substances in their bodies, had the audacity to manufacture it themselves.
Glossing over the confusion of why a State-worshiping, war-mongering, fascist neocon outfit like Fox News would employ a man who is a very staunch minarchist*, we can get to the main point of this post: The liberal faction of the Republocrats contains about as many cruel and immoral drug warriors as the neocon wing. The Byrne Grant program started to be phased out by the Republicans in the 1990’s, and currently the Democrats are trying to bring it back to prominence by allocating hundreds of millions more dollars for it. Who is leading the charge for this ineffective and immoral scheme? The wise, compassionate, and enlightened Barack Obama.
*Maybe the reason is that they have enough open-minded and objective people among them that they continue to loyally employ a very high-quality columnist (and blagger).
