It must suck to be Matt Moore

I know this is nearly one-month-old news, but I have been too busy to blag much lately, as you can tell. Fear not, I’ll be back in full force soon. I have been meaning to blag about this for a while because it is so stupid and so maddening. Radley Balko, who is actually a pretty consistent minarchist and excellent defender of individuals’ rights, especially against our increasingly totalitarian law-enforcement system, enthusiastically hailed and defended the LP’s nomination of Bob Barr as its 2008 presidential candidate. I don’t support Barr because he is Not Libertarian Enough, but I suppose his candidacy could be good for publicity for the LP and thus the “libertarian” message as a whole, but I don’t know that having non-libertarians associate Barr’s watered-down minarchism with libertarianism is a good thing. If it leads many Statists to learn more about libertarianism, and Ron Paul and Harry Browne, and then real libertarianism (anarcho-capitalism), then it might not be so bad. But I think the LP and its somewhat minarchist candidates are good for publicity and not much else.

That’s not why I’m writing. I’m writing to bring attention to a particularly stupid but all-too-common minarchist statement, which is one of the worst political “arguments” I’ve ever heard. The offender this time is one Matt Moore, who commented on Balko’s post here:

And if you don’t like the laws in your state, you can always move. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than what we’ve got now.

While he should be credited for recognizing the limited good entailed by decreasing federal power only to give it to states, the fact that he is so misguided and so benighted as to even consider making such a moronic statement as “you can always move” reveals him to be as hopelessly confused, inconsistent, ignorant, and downright immoral as a minarchist can be.

What the statement, “If you don’t like the laws in your state, you can always move,” says is basically, “Yeah, we know we’re violating your rights by forcing you to submit to our ‘minimal’ government, but we have the guns so if you don’t like it, you can run somewhere else.”

If this brain-dead idiot Matt Moore would wake up and take a look around at the real world once in a while, he might notice THERE IS NOWHERE ELSE TO MOVE TO! The entire WORLD is victimized by predatory and malicious states! The point of libertarianism is to convince people that it is both just and good to let people live as they please, within their own sphere of liberty, without violating anyone else’s equal right, anywhere they choose!

God, I’m sorry, I just can’t write about Matt Moore or any of the millions of other inconsistent, hypocritical, and immoral “minarchists” anymore because their stupidity is out of the reach of my explaining abilities and if you don’t get it, then I can’t explain it to you.
