I don’t believe him

After saying, “What color is he?… Oh, okay, there you go,” regarding Adam “Pacman” Jones’s criminal record, Don Imus defends his comment by saying, “I meant that he was being picked on because he’s black.” It was supposed to be sarcastic, because everyone knows he’s black and everyone knows blacks get picked on by the justice system all the time. “What people should be outraged about is that they arrest blacks for no reason. I mean, there’s no reason to arrest this kid six times.”

Obviously it shouldn’t matter what Don Imus says about anything. I don’t see any good reason to fire him or fine him or anything, so I’m not trying to make a political point. I just wanted to say I don’t believe him. I think he had a whole day to think of a good alibi—and he did, because his explanation actually turns out to be true and if he had meant that from the beginning, it would be a great socio-political point to make. I just think given his history and his tendency to make volatile comments, he meant that it’s typical for a black man from the inner city to commit crimes and be arrested for legitimate reasons, and that his explanatory defense was a good alibi.
