Well, that didn’t last long

Last night I wrote about the sick and depressed feeling that my unintentional, half-subconscious rooting for Barack Obama gave me; this feeling was very strong all day yesterday, from my trip to the polls to my viewing of Comedy Central’s election coverage, because I found myself actually rooting for Obama victories and McCain losses.

I discovered this morning that that rooting—however weak or strong it was in the preceding months, however much I noticed it or recognized it yesterday or before, however my friends feel about the Savior’s victory (the word “orgasmic” comes to mind), and however bad the rooting made me feel—had vanished and I went back to being completely disgusted with the man and his ideals, and nothing else. I feel sick not because he’s going to be any worse than McCain, or because any other election outcome could have saved us from moral and financial ruin, but just because it’s a reality now. I probably would have felt the same thing if McCain had won. I am completely against him and in favor of his defeat four years from now, even if it has to come from the Republicans, because he will be the incumbent with political power. Ideally he would be replaced with nobody…

When I got to work this morning, two Obama-worshiping girls were watching his victory speech on CNN.com at the girl’s desk next to mine, with the volume up pretty loud, and I had to find an excuse to get away from my desk immediately after I arrived. The very sound of his voice makes me sick. It’s going to make me sick for the next (hopefully) four years. I kind of hope I don’t become inured to it. When this girl watches videos on YouTube, the Onion, or Hulu.com, she never turns them up very loud at all, even when a few of us are watching—but, oh, no, we should make an exception for the Savior of America! We should revere everything about him, cheer for everything he says, and broadcast it loud and clear for the whole world!

I expect that even I, in my cynical, crazy libertarianism, am underestimating the number of injustices his administration is going to commit and the number of bad policies it is going to implement that liberal Republocrats will still support or at least excuse. He is going to get a free pass from them on almost every single thing he wants to do. I think in order to predict the quantity and magnitude of the disasters he and his followers will inflict upon this nation all while claiming moral superiority and ignoring all the bad, you’d have to go so far as to anticipate Bush-like incompetence and malice. Especially with his Democratic Congress.
